Spotlight: Aurelia Martens
I’d like to take a moment to shine a spotlight on this incredible person that I have the pleasure of working alongside; Aurelia Martens.
Aurelia became a licensed Massage Therapist and began practice in 2002. That same year, she became certified in comprehensive Neuromuscular Therapies, including Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy and Muscle Energy Technique.
Her interest in helping others was inspired early on by her grandmother. She had a unique upbringing and introduction to alternative healing practices thanks to the influence of her foremothers and childhood experiences in the Philippines.
In Aurelia’s words:
“Massage Therapy is embedded in my family as it is a common practice in the village where I grew up in. One of my grandmothers was a practicing midwife/massage therapist. Pregnant women consulted with her and came to her for massage to prepare for birthing. Ninety percent of babies in my generation from that village were delivered by my grandmother without the presence of a medical doctor.”
She continues, “One good example is my very own mother who gave birth to twelve children; all of which she delivered in her home. I remember, she was getting massages twice a day during last trimester of pregnancy. Seeing the power of natural care at work encouraged me to continue practicing massage therapy.”
Aurelia’s expertise and skill are vast. When asked about the different disciplines she’s studied, she replied:
”I have pursued many massage modalities over the years including manual lymphatic drainage, sports massage and John F Barnes approach to Myofascial release, including Pediatric Myofascial Release.”
She continues, “In my experience, Myofascial release has been the most effective treatment for pain and in restoring range of motion. I see clients who have been through multiple surgeries, patients recovering from cancer treatment, and women experiencing pelvic floor pain. All of them experiencing benefit from Myofascial release. I'm still practicing Neuromuscular therapies and lymphatic drainage whenever I find necessary to integrate with Myofascial release.”
I have had the pleasure of witnessing so many success stories come through her treatment room that I could spend forever sharing with you, but not there’s not enough space here. My best recommendation is that you come in and experience for yourself the healing hands of Aurelia Martens.
